Turn yourself into an AI action figure… and more!

By now you’ve probably seen the cool graphics your friends are generating with ChatGPT that show them as a boxed action figure or Barbie doll complete with accessories and stickers.

Even the free version of ChatGPT will let you generate these images, and I promise you’ll spend the morning playing around with this silly trend.

But here at Nerd HQ, anything worth wasting time on is worth figuring out how to waste A LOT of time. So when I couldn’t sleep last night, I turned on my computer at 3am and got to work on even better prompts to up your AI-toy game.

I was going to throw all the prompts into this blog post, but it got very cumbersome very quickly. So instead I batched the images by time period for your viewing pleasure. Then I created a separate document with cut-and-paste prompts as well as the images and prompts that I used.

Pre 1980s Toys

Inspired by Mr. Potato Head, G.I. Joe, Hot Wheels and Barbie, with a touch of Stretch Armstrong thrown in for fun. Oh, I put Star Wars in this time frame because it was technically from the 1970s, but the collectables exploded in the last 10 years.

1980s Toy Madness

The toys of my childhood: Care Bears, Cabbage Patch Kids, My Little Pony and Transformers. Polly Pocket also took over toy catalogs later in the decade.

Toys from the 1990s

Beanie Babies! And Furbies, Tamagotchis and the exploding popularity of American Girl Dolls. Trolls also resurfaced as collectables, though they had been around since the 1960s.

2000s and beyond

We can thank Toy Story for pull-string buddies. LEGO minifigs blew up. Funko Pop! created collectable figurines. And then dolls found their dark sides with Bratz and Monster High.

A Note about Copyright Infringement

These types of images are for personal use only. Don’t even try to use them in your branding. Just have fun with them. For the most part, the prompts I used didn’t trigger ChatGPT’s warnings. But I found when I was doing quite a few in a row, it started to get cranky. So often I would just start a new chat and try again.

Interestingly enough, I had the most trouble with Ms. Potato Head. We really had to work hard to get ChatGPT to feel comfortable generating the image.

I tried using the prompts in my paid version of ChatGPT and it said it can’t create images and instead referred me to another website called anyvideo.ai but that site charges fees by credits to create images. Is that also what you used? Thanks for all your nerdiness! Much appreciated!

    • Amy, be careful! There are a lot of paid ChatGPT dupes out there. I’m worried that you might be in one. ChatGPT can make images.

  • Hi Beth, Thank you very much for “AI Action Figure Prompts and More” as this was very interesting to me. I enjoyed all the toys you made of yourself, I was a child in the 80’s so I could especially relate to those. Loved the Cabbage Patch of you! And of course the Hot Wheels, Barbie, and Mr. Potato Head (interesting it was the hardest to create). I feel like I’m getting a much needed education on IA from you. Thanks again.
