We May Never Google Again: Hands On with AI-Enabled Search Engines

Breaking news from the AI world!

Yesterday OpenAI unveiled SearchGPT, its newest application powered by ChatGPT.

SearchGPT aims to incorporate real-time information, AI content generation and cited sources into search functionalities. And this ai-powered search engine functionality may force Google to change its business model.

Can Google Compete with AI-Powered Search?

For years and years, Google’s blank search bar was how we found info – mostly in the form of link after link that we sift through and vet. Relatively recently, Google added quick answers and summaries to shortcut the process. But Googling still results in ads and a mix of relevant and irrelevant articles. If you’re digging for insights on a certain topic, clicking through multiple websites can take forever.

What Is an AI-Powered Search Engine?

The headlines were all about OpenAI’s SearchGPT yesterday, but it’s not the first to offer this Google replacement. (Even Google itself has a Google replacement.)

I have talked about Perplexity before in terms of it being a great source of information and facts as opposed to ChatGPT’s creativity and creation.

Both the free and paid versions of Perplexity give direct answers, real-time information and comprehensive reports that include summaries and key features. I’ve found it so helpful lately when I research studies on productivity or new technologies. I used it just last week to share updates on the latest data breaches.

How Can an AI-Powered Search Engine Help?

The possibilities for AI-enable search engines are endless. They can help administrative assistants, financial investors, graduate students and even educators by aggregating and summarizing vital information quickly and effectively. Perplexity also lets you convert your findings into “Pages” with a Wikipedia-like format that you can share with others, who, in turn, can query the results themselves.
